Clergy and Staff

Fr. Steve Pastor: Fr. Steven V. Bruno

Fr. Steve grew up in Mid-City, attending St. Anthony of Padua Grade School and St. John Prep High School. He considered the Priesthood even then, but after a few weeks at St. Joseph Seminary College (St. Ben’s as is commonly called) he left feeling he was too young to get through the structured and “out in the country” experience back then.  He became very involved in TEC retreats, music ministry, and CYO leadership while also receiving an Associate Degree in Music from Delgado Community College and attended LSU with the intention of pursuing a career in that field but realized that music was really a hobby rather than a career.  He began work for a small, family owned reprographic company and continued a sporadic college career,  eventually graduating from Our Lady of Holy Cross College with a B.A. in Social Science with the intention to hopefully teach High School Religion. However, at 32 years old he was still asking the question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?”   Joining a discernment group called Journey (run by Frs. Harry Bugler and Joe Palermo) he came to understand that God was calling him to the seminary.  At 40 years old he was ordained June 4, 2005.  After serving two years at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish he was invited to move to Visitation of Our Lady in Marrero and serve part time as Associate Director of Vocations.  Three years later the Archbishop asked him to take on Vocations in a full time capacity.  After four years as Vocation Director, he headed back to Parish Life as Parochial Vicar at St. Philip Neri.  Fr. Steve started his 1st Pastoral position at St Rita on July 1st, 2016.

Fr. Ken Parochial Vicar: Fr. Kenneth S. Smith

Fr. Ken was born in St. Louis and grew up in Natchitoches. After thirty years in the restaurant industry, where he achieved the position of executive chef at the Upperline Restaurant, he finally took a step he had dreamt of since childhood and entered Notre Dame Seminary to begin priestly formation. He was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on June 4, 2016 and assigned to St. Rita Parish on July 1, 2016.
